HA injected or applied?

So this is where we get a little more in-depth. In short, when simply applied topically, HA cannot be absorbed by our skin. Sodium hyaluronate, the salt of hyaluronic acid, which is a smaller molecule, can penetrate the skin when injected as well as when applied topically, and thus appears in fillers and topical creams and serums.

What is crossed linked or non-cross linked HA?

Non-crossed linked HA is found in topical creams and serums where cross linked HA are found in injectables.

What is Cross linked HA?

Many of us know that hyaluronic acid is one of the main ingredients found in fillers. Fillers are injected to plump up and smooth wrinkles. As mentioned above, HA also attracts and binds water, and this helps maintain fullness in the area of injection. HA dermal fillers (Cross linked HA) consist of long chains of hyaluronic acid. Most dermal filler products will consist of HA cross-linked with a chemical such as 1,4-butanedioldiglycidyl ether (BDDE) which is suspended in a physiological solution. The product is then processed as carrier gel for the Filler HA to be injected into the skin. HA fillers are predominantly injected into the subcutaneous adipose tissue, and deeper injections lead to prolonged efficacy. The effect of Cross-linked hyaluronic acid may last for six months or longer. Skin improvements can be observed even after full biodegradation of the filler, however, these volume effects will diminish.

What is Non- Crossed linked HA?

For topical hyaluronic treatments like CooLifting, the non-crossed linked Hyaluronic Acid results last up to 72hrs after treatment or application. So now you probably wondering why would anyone opt for a solution that only lasts for 3 days over injectables that last up to 6 months? Furthermore, why do some doctors prefer to treat clients with non-crossed linked HA?
