A scar can be categorised as either Hypertrophic or Keloid. The specialist will be able to assess the type of scar during a consultation.
A Hypertrophic scar is a raised scar that can appear as shiny, smooth or rough. Atrophic is a concave or depressed scar. Both these scars respond well to the scar revision procedure.
A Keloid is large, bulky and puffy in appearance and it tends to grow/stretch over time. This procedure is NOT suitable for treatment of keloids, we advise that you seek treatment from a plastic surgeon.
A scar caused by a burn can take up to two years to heal, it can only be treated after this time. It appears as irregular-textured skin, with an appearance of ropes under the skin distinguished by craters.
Paramedical needling is an advanced treatment that uses a coil tattooing machine that penetrates the skin at a depth of 0.2mm – 1mm, which only treats the epidermis and part of the reticular layer in the dermis which allows regeneration of the tissue to occur.

- The body’s naturally healing process is stimulated and collagen induction occurs
Needling is the stimulation of collagen production into the skin – these treatments cause a micro-injury’s to the skin and the body responds by sending blood to the area for healing (the blood contains growth factors) this process stimulates your fibroblasts (connective tissue that stimulates collagen and elastin fibres) as the skin heals the new collagen builds up the papillary dermis below the surface of the skin, thus allowing the scars to plump out naturally from the inside out.
- Ice-pick scarring and deep wrinkles may require 4 – 6 sessions or more
- Improvement on the treated areas will be seen within a few weeks of the treatment and inner healing of the skin continues for several months which allows for optimal results to be achieved. During the healing process the skin goes through changes where it smooths and tightens as collagen is produced in the area.
- For a scar repair treatment the swelling is minimal. The superficial healing occurs within a few days after the treatment
- Immediately after the treatment the area that was treated will be red and accompanied by swelling.
