About The Laser Beautique Safe Skin Analysis Campaign

As one of the leading non-invasive aesthetic and skin care clinics, keeping skin safe and healthy is our entire business. Being one of the few laser skin care clinics available throughout the country, we would like to use this advantage to bring skin safety and care to as many people as possible. We are therefore excited to launch the First Annual “Safe Skin Analysis” campaign at The Laser Beautique. The campaign is designed to aid early detection of skin cancer, which we hope will reduce the rising number of skin cancer cases in South Africa.

Skin Cancer is the most common form of cancer that one can get, and South Africa, sadly, has the second highest number of cases in the world after Australia. What many don’t realise is that skin cancer can be prevented quite easily by adopting safe skin care practises. Using an SPF is without doubt, the first and simplest way to help save your skin. The other, very simple but potentially lifesaving method, is early detection and treatment of skin anomalies or pigmentation before it becomes malignant.

The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends that everyone practice monthly head-to-toe self-examinations of their skin, so that they can find any new or changing lesions that might be cancerous or precancerous. Skin cancers found and removed early are almost always curable. Life is busy and many of us don’t perform monthly or even annual examinations.

To promote self-examination is why TLB has launched the Safe Skin Analysis campaign where we will be offering a FREE skin analysis and assisted self-examination. A TLB skin specialist will run through step by step of a self examiniation with you, examine your entire body and highlight any anomalies, pigmentation or brown spots that she feels may need medical attention or will recommend treatment with Skin Peels, Laser or Thermocoagulation for anomlies that are not suspicious as such but can be treated.

The Laser Beautique Safe Skin Analysis Self Examination is a FREE service before having to incur costs of seeing a dermatologist. Should a TLB skin specialist find any skin anomalies that look irregular or of concern, this will be highlighted to you. We WILL NOT test, diagnose or treat the anomaly until we have the doctors go ahead. Only a qualified doctor can test, diagnose and give the go ahead to treat an anomaly that is suspicious.

By creating this free step between having skin imperfections and seeing a dermatologist, The Laser Beautique strives to ensure healthy, happy skin, not just for your face but for your whole body.

Both skin peels and laser are recommended treatments by the Skin Cancer Foundation to treat non-malignant skin spots or keratoses before they become a bigger problem. At The Laser Beautique, we use the most advanced laser technology available on the market to treat pigmentation. Maintaining the skin in an optimal condition by the regular application of skin peels (RegimA and Nimue) and Laser Therapy. This helps prevent the build-up of actinic keratosis, which could possibly develop into skin cancer if left untreated.

There are three main types of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Because each has many different appearances, it is important to know the early warning signs. Look especially for change of any kind. Do not ignore a suspicious spot simply because it does not hurt. Skin cancers may be painless, but dangerous all the same. If you notice one or more of the warning signs, see a doctor right away, preferably one who specialises in diseases of the skin.

  1. A skin growth that increases in size and appears pearly, translucent, tan, brown, black, or multicoloured
  2. A mole, birthmark, beauty mark, or any brown spot that:
    • changes color
    • increases in size or thickness
    • changes in texture
    • is irregular in outline
    • is bigger than 6mm (the size of a pencil eraser)
    • appears after age 21
  3. A spot or sore that continues to itch, hurt, crust, scab, erode, or bleed
  4. An open sore that does not heal within three weeks

If we spot anything that looks slightly suspicious, your TLB Skin Specialist will advise you to see a physician, preferably one who specialises in diseases of the skin, if you note any change in an existing mole, freckle, or spot or if you find a new one with any of the warning signs of skin cancer.

At TLB we will assist you take pictures using your camera or your phone to ensure you have a visible comparison between each Safe Skin Assessment.

Successful Treatments for regular, non-suspicious skin imperfections available at The Laser Beautique

The following skin imperfections are superficial which can be treated effectively by Thermocoagulation. The process will improve the skins appearance by reducing or eliminating those unwanted imperfections. A TLB skin specialist is able to treat: visible facial veins or capillaries, skin tags, angiomas, milia, keratosis, angiokeratomes, open pores or unwanted piercings.

Thermocoagulation utilizes the High Frequency Current to discharge pin point heat energy to treat skin imperfections and collapse the spider veins upon contact. The energy created by the high frequency current produces a thermal lesion and the immediate disappearance of the imperfection or vein while preserving the epidermis. All that may remain is a tiny circular red mark that disappears within hours post treatment to leave a micro-crust which itself disappears usually in a matter of days. The treatment is extremely safe and unlike other treatments does not pose risks of heat blisters or scarring.
